The launcher installs for your Windows user only, without administrator rights, and brings its own Java. It downloads Minecraft, Fabric and your mods the first time you press Play.

Minecraft versions the client supports:

1.21.11.21.31.21.41.21.51.21.81.21.101.21.1126.1.226.226.3
  1. Run the installer. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info, then Run anyway.
  2. Sign in with Microsoft. Your browser opens Microsoft's own sign-in page. The launcher keeps the sign-in encrypted on your PC.
  3. Make an instance and press Play. Pick a Minecraft version, start blank or optimized, or import one from another launcher.
  4. Updates come by themselves. The launcher checks amethystclient.com when it opens, and installs an update only after its signature checks out.

Check the file yourself

The launcher checks every update by itself. To check the installer you downloaded by hand, run this in PowerShell and compare the result with the SHA-256 above:

If an update gives you trouble, the launcher can go back to an earlier version from Settings. The installers are here too.
