Amethyst 0.16.1

24 October 2026Latest

Updates now come from amethystclient.com

  • Amethyst has its own website, amethystclient.com, with downloads, release notes, performance results and answers to common questions.
  • The launcher now checks amethystclient.com for updates instead of GitHub. Every update is still signed, and the launcher now also checks the file's SHA-256 checksum before installing. If either check fails, nothing is installed and your current version keeps working.
  • Update channel: Settings → Updates → Channel lets you pick Stable or Beta. Beta gets new versions first, before everyone else.
  • Roll back: Settings → Updates → "Show earlier versions" now lists the versions published on amethystclient.com.

This is the last release that also appears on GitHub. From here on, updates come only from amethystclient.com.

Amethyst 0.16.0

23 October 2026

Shield

  • Stun detection fixed. It never fired on Minecraft 1.21.5 and newer, because those versions no longer send the "shield disabled" event it waited for; the server plays a shield-break sound instead, and that is what it listens to now. It also missed quick stuns: your second click usually goes out before the server reports that the first one disabled the shield, and the stun hit often lands without a hurt animation. Your recent clicks are now kept and matched when the server answers, and a landed hit counts when the target's health drops, it flinches, or the server plays the sound of a hit that did damage. Switching items in between works: sword, then axe to disable the shield, then a hit with the axe or the sword.
  • Shield colours, like the ShieldStatus mod: shields are tinted green when ready and red while disabled, with optional colours while raising and while blocking, on your shield, other players' shields, or both, and an option to colour only disabled shields. Banner shields are tinted too. Other players' cooldowns are not sent to your client, so their red lasts the usual 5 seconds after the disable (shorter if they raise the shield again).
  • With the Shield Fixes or ShieldStatus mods installed, the module leaves their part to them (no doubled sounds or tints). On Minecraft 1.21.5 and newer the server already plays the shield sounds, so none are added there.

Overlay

  • Minimal view bobbing: the camera stays level while you walk; only your hand bobs (needs Minecraft's View Bobbing on).
  • Hide armor: helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots each on their own, on you only or on every player. An elytra always shows.
  • Clear glass: glass with only its frame, or invisible, with or without stained glass. Works with Continuity's connected glass. Changing it reloads the textures once you close the menu.
  • Lower shield: your shield drawn lower in first person.
  • Stuck arrows: arrows and bee stingers stuck in players can be hidden.

Name tags

  • Your own name tag in third person now follows the server: it is not shown when the server's team settings hide name tags, or when the server attached its own name tag to you (a text display or named armor stand riding you), which then shows instead.
  • When the server styles your name only in the tab list (servers that draw custom name tags often do), your own tag uses that styled name instead of the plain one.

Amethyst 0.15.0

23 October 2026

New modules

  • Hitboxes: Minecraft's hitbox lines without pressing F3+B, in your colours: one colour for every box or one per kind (players, hostile mobs, other mobs, items and projectiles), your target (the entity under your crosshair) in its own colour, and the eye-height line and look direction, each with its own colour or turned off. Line width can be changed on Minecraft 1.21.11 and newer. Drawn exactly like Minecraft's own, so nothing shows through walls.
  • Shield: the two fixes from Shield Fixes, written for Amethyst: shield sounds when a shield blocks your hit or gets disabled, and other players visibly blocking whenever they hold their shield up. Plus stun detection (off by default): when your axe disables a player's shield and your next hit lands within the time you set, you get an alert: a sound (Ding, Orb, Level up, Bell or Anvil, with volume), a chat message only you see (your own text, with {player} for the name), or nothing. It only watches; it never clicks or attacks for you.
  • Fog: turn the distance fog off or make it lighter with a 0–100 % slider (like the scoreboard and tab list opacity), and optionally the fog in water and lava. Fog from Blindness and Darkness is never changed.
  • Shulker preview: point at a shulker box in any inventory and see its 27 slots next to the tooltip, in the box's colour. Show always or only while holding Shift. Steps aside if the ShulkerBoxTooltip mod is installed.
  • Overlay: like Lunar's Overlay: lower or hide the burning overlay, fade the pumpkin and powder snow (frost) overlays, drop the spyglass scope, and turn off the camera shake when you get hurt.

Hotkeys for every module

  • Every module's settings page has a Toggle hotkey: press any key or mouse button to set it, Esc or Clear to remove it. The key shows on the module's card in the Mods list.
  • If the key is already used (by another module, a module's own key setting, the Amethyst menu key or one of Minecraft's controls), the page says so in orange.
  • Hotkeys only work in the game, not while a menu or chat is open; a small message above the hotbar says "on" or "off".

Fixes

  • Toggle sprint: the "Sprinting (toggled)" label no longer disappears when you stand still. The toggle stays on and you sprint again as soon as you move.
  • HUD items stuck in the middle: items that start near the centre of the screen (combo, reach display) sat under the Right Shift hub's Mods button and could not be grabbed. HUD items now come first wherever the hub has no button, so they can be dragged anywhere. Positions are kept on screen and saved as before.

macOS and Linux (preparation)

  • The client now has macOS and Linux versions of the parts that were Windows-only: the file picker (osascript, zenity or kdialog), copying screenshots to the clipboard (osascript, wl-copy or xclip), moving screenshots to the Trash, and the link to the launcher (a Unix socket only you can open).
  • The launcher's code now handles macOS and Linux too: its data folder, Java downloads (Apple silicon and Intel), Minecraft's per-OS libraries, launching, account storage in the system keychain, and finding other launchers' folders. macOS and Linux launcher builds need a Mac and a Linux PC to build on, so they come through a cloud build once that is set up; this release is Windows only.

Amethyst 0.14.0

22 October 2026

Performance

  • Less work every frame: the HUD no longer creates new memory buffers for each part of the screen it touches every frame, and the CPS, ping and Toggle Sprint text is only rebuilt when the number changes. With 60 mods the game's main thread now made about 12 % less garbage for Java to clean up in one 40-second profile (151 to 133 MB per second); FPS and start-up time were the same within measuring noise (948 vs 939 FPS, 17.1 s start).
  • Amethyst itself takes about 1 % of the game's work per frame and 63 ms at start-up; the rest is Minecraft and your other mods.
  • Run on Java 25 (instance Options → Java): a newer Java that keeps objects smaller in memory. About 2 % more FPS with 60 mods on the test PC (926 vs 907). Off by default because Minecraft 1.21 asks for Java 21 and a few mods may not support 25. 26.x instances already run Java 25 and now get this automatically.
  • Low-end PC graphics preset (instance Performance tab): for built-in graphics and older PCs: 6 chunks, no clouds, shadows, mipmaps or smooth lighting, fewer entities drawn. The launcher checks your PC (memory, CPU threads, graphics card) and marks it "For this PC" when it fits.
  • The launcher minimizes itself while you play and comes back when the game closes (or crashes, with crash help ready), so its window takes nothing from the game. Turn it off in Settings → While playing.

Skins

  • The skin preview in the launcher and in the in-game Cosmetics page stands still. It only turns when you drag it; the launcher's idle animation is gone too.

Full measurements, the test PC and what could not be verified: bench/results/0.14.0-RESULTS.md.

Amethyst 0.13.1

21 October 2026

Fixes

  • Elytra with your own capes: the wings no longer go invisible when your cape (often a GIF or picture cape) has nothing drawn where the wings go. Those capes now give the normal elytra; capes that include wing art still put it on your elytra, as before. This also applies to other Amethyst players' shared capes.

Modules

  • Totem pops works like the TotemCounter mod: each player's pops go after their name tag, as "Steve | -3", with the number turning from green to yellow, gold and red as it grows. Counts clear when that player dies, when a match ends on common PvP servers, or when you change world.
  • The "You: 0 pops / Enemy: 0 pops" box is gone; Totem pops is now just an on/off switch with no settings.

Amethyst 0.13.0

21 October 2026

Look

  • OLED theme: the dark theme on true black, for OLED screens. Pick it in Settings → Appearance, which now shows the four themes (Same as Windows, Dark, OLED, Light) as small previews. The in-game menus follow your choice.

Skins and capes

  • What you pick in the launcher goes on at once, even with the game open. Press Use in game on a cape, or Wear on a skin, and a running game switches to it within two seconds. No restart, no rejoining.
  • Your capes are shared: the cape you wear from your library is also shared with other Amethyst players (while Amethyst online is on). Before, a cape saved in the launcher was only ever shown to you.
  • Uploading a cape in game adds it to your library, so it shows in the launcher's cape list too, and the game wears it right away.
  • Click a cape from your library in game to wear it. No Upload step for capes you already have; the one you wear has a highlighted border.
  • Animated capes have a Speed slider (¼× to 4×) instead of a frame-time number, in the launcher and in game.
  • Official capes show their design in the launcher's cape list, like your own capes. Click one to see it on your character.
  • The Cosmetics preview stands still instead of moving its arms and cape, which made the chest look like it was jumping.

Modules

  • Scoreboard and Tab list: Opacity. A 0–100 % slider that makes their backgrounds more transparent; the text stays readable.

Fixes

  • Stuck server resource pack: leaving a server while its required resource pack was still loading could leave that pack on afterwards. Amethyst now notices it on the title or multiplayer screen and takes it off.
  • HD capes on Minecraft 1.21.1: large cape images (such as 1024 by 512) no longer crash the game.
  • Rollback no longer offers to install the version you are already on; it is marked "Current version".
  • Playtime reads like Modrinth: a timer icon with "33 hours", then a clock icon with "Last played 19h ago" (no more "19 h ago").

Amethyst 0.12.0

20 October 2026

Title screen backgrounds

  • Pick your title screen background in Settings → Title screen background: every panorama Minecraft has had, from Classic and Underwater to Snowy peaks, Crimson forest, Cherry grove, Pale garden, Autumn grove and more (18 in all).
  • Backgrounds download from Mojang's own servers the first time you pick one (a few megabytes) and change at once. Nothing from Minecraft is packed into Amethyst.
  • Capture from here: in a world, stand somewhere you like (a snowy plain, badlands, your base) and press Capture from here to make it your title screen.

Cosmetics

  • The preview now shows your selected skin wearing your cape, like the launcher, on the title screen too. It updates when you change your skin, arms or cape.
  • It turns the same way as the launcher's viewer: drag to spin it around or tilt it, and it slowly turns by itself.

Modules

  • Saturation now works exactly like AppleSkin: the gold outline follows each drumstick's shape (no more squares), food in your hand flashes the drumsticks, saturation and hearts it would give back, and tooltips show rows of drumsticks and saturation icons instead of text. If AppleSkin itself is installed, Amethyst leaves the hunger bar to it.
  • Horse stats now sit inside the horse's inventory, in the empty box where chest slots would be (speed, jump, health and a llama's strength, with bars). Donkeys, mules and llamas carrying a chest keep them beside the inventory.

Look

  • Sharp, smooth menu text in the launcher's font (Geologica). Amethyst now draws its menu text itself, the way a browser does: each letter is smoothed at exactly the size it shows on screen and lands on whole pixels. Minecraft's font system placed letters between pixels, which made every font look blurry and uneven.
  • Starting the game is also a little quicker: Minecraft no longer measures thousands of font letters for the menu at start-up.

Launcher

  • Change your cape: choose Use a picture (any photo, fitted onto the cape) or Upload a cape file (PNG or GIF already in cape layout: 64×32, HD, the old 22×17 layout or animated). Animated capes play in game.
  • Drop an image on the Skins page: a 64×64 skin is uploaded, anything else opens the cape dialog with it. Before, dropping a file there did nothing.
  • New instances can use every Minecraft version from 1.21 to 26.3 (the list started at 1.21.11 before).
  • Instance photos now show clearly as a square icon on the card, over a blurred copy of the photo.

Amethyst 0.11.0

20 October 2026

Cosmetics

  • See yourself in 3D on the Cosmetics page: your skin, your arms and the cape you are about to upload, on your own player. Drag to turn; it slowly turns by itself when you leave it. (On the title screen it shows the cape on its own.)
  • The page now has two tabs, Skin and Shared cape.
  • Changes show at once. Switching between Classic and Slim arms, or picking a new skin, updates your player straight away, in first person too. Other players see it after they rejoin, as before.
  • Any PNG or GIF works as a cape. 64×32 capes and HD capes upload as they are; the old 22×17 layout is padded for you; any other picture (or GIF) is fitted onto the cape. Big or long animations are made smaller to fit the 1 MB limit, and the page says what it changed.
  • The profile button in the Right Shift hub now opens Cosmetics.

Modules

  • Horse stats is no longer a module: the speed, jump height and health of a horse (or donkey, mule, llama or camel, plus a llama's strength) now show beside its inventory when you press E while riding. Bars show how good each value is.
  • Totem pops: the HUD shows you and the player you are fighting, and every player's pops show on their name tag (like "Steve -3"). Counts reset when a player dies.
  • Saturation works like AppleSkin all the time: saturation as an outline on the hunger bar, what the food in your hand would restore, exhaustion (singleplayer), and food values in tooltips. Its only setting is the outline colour.
  • Your name in third person (F5): you now see your own name tag. It can be turned off in Settings.

Look

  • New menu font (Inter). Text is sharper at every window size, including 1280×720, where letters such as "i" used to blur.

Launcher

  • Right-click an instance for Play, Add to favorites, Add content, View instance, Duplicate instance, Open folder, Copy path, Edit icon and Delete.
  • Favorites stay at the top of the library.
  • Deleting an instance moves it to the Recycle Bin instead of erasing it.

Faster

  • Starts 0.25 s sooner: the menu font now carries only the letters it needs (Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and common symbols), and Minecraft measures every letter of every font when it loads. Warm start to the title screen: 10.58 s → 10.33 s (median of 5, 7 performance mods). The client jar is also smaller (759 KB → 428 KB).
  • Smoother frames: the HUD no longer makes garbage every frame (each vanilla element Amethyst can change used to allocate a 5 KB buffer every frame, even with its module off), and text HUD boxes build their text once per tick instead of four times per frame. In the FPS test (5 runs each, alternating): average 993 → 1004 FPS, 5 % lows 944 → 970 FPS.
  • What is left is mostly Minecraft and Sodium themselves: Amethyst's own code is about 2 % of the game's frame time.

Amethyst 0.10.0

19 October 2026

World map

  • New World map module: press M for a full-screen map of everywhere you have been. It is saved per world, server and dimension, so it stays when you come back.
  • Drag to move, scroll to zoom (from 8 pixels per block out to 8 blocks per pixel), Centre on me, and a chunk grid when zoomed in.
  • Shows your waypoints, other players (with their faces) and you.
  • Right-click anywhere: Add waypoint here, Teleport here (where /tp is allowed) or Copy coordinates.
  • The world map records while you play. With the minimap open it uses the minimap's reading, so it costs almost nothing extra.

Minimap

  • Other players show with their faces instead of dots (can be switched back).

Fixed

  • The [Copy] button on the screenshot message did nothing. It now puts the picture on the clipboard (paste it in Discord, Paint or a folder). The [Delete] button had the same problem and works now too.
  • Choosing a cape or skin file from the Cosmetics page opened no file window. Fixed.
  • After uploading a screenshot, hovering [Open link] or [Copy link] no longer shows the website address.

Amethyst 0.9.0

18 October 2026

Every 1.21 and 26 version

Amethyst Client now runs on every Minecraft 1.21 and 26 release:

  • 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5
  • 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11
  • 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3

New in this release: 1.21 to 1.21.5. Every module, the minimap and waypoints, cosmetics and the online features work on all of them.

Small differences on older versions:

  • On 1.21 to 1.21.3 the chat draws over Amethyst's HUD, the same way it covers Minecraft's own HUD there.
  • On 1.21.4 and 1.21.5 the saturation overlay draws just after the hunger bar instead of being part of it (it looks the same).

Coming next

  • The full-screen world map.

Amethyst 0.8.0

18 October 2026

More Minecraft versions

Amethyst Client now also runs on 1.21.6, 1.21.7 and 1.21.8.

All supported versions: 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3. Every module, the minimap and waypoints, cosmetics and the online features work on all of them.

Coming next

  • Minecraft 1.21.5, then 1.21 to 1.21.4.
  • The full-screen world map.

Amethyst 0.7.0

18 October 2026

More Minecraft versions

Amethyst Client now runs on:

  • 26.3, 26.2
  • 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2
  • 1.21.11, 1.21.10, 1.21.9

Every module, the minimap and waypoints, cosmetics and the online features work the same on all of them. Make an instance with one of these versions and Amethyst Client is added to it like before.

Coming next

  • Minecraft 1.21.6 to 1.21.8, then the older 1.21 releases.
  • The full-screen world map.

Amethyst 0.6.0

18 October 2026

Minimap

  • New Minimap module (HUD): square or round, any size and place (HUD editor), north-up or turning with you, zoom with [ and ], opacity, chunk grid, border colour, north marker, coordinates and biome under the map.
  • Real block colours with height shading; grass, leaves and water take their biome's colour, and deeper water is darker.
  • Cave mode switches on by itself underground and in the Nether (or set it to always or off).
  • Radar: other players (with names), hostile mobs, animals and items. Ones below you are drawn darker.
  • A key can hide and show the map.

Waypoints

  • B adds a waypoint where you stand (name, letters, colour, position). U opens the list.
  • Waypoints show on the minimap (held at the edge when far away) and in the world as a beam with an icon, the distance and, when you look at it, the name.
  • A Death waypoint is made where you die; the previous one becomes "Old death".
  • Overworld waypoints show in the Nether at 8:1, and back.
  • In the list: show or hide, edit, Share (puts it in the chat box in the format Xaero's Minimap uses, so friends with either mod can add it), Teleport (where /tp is allowed) and delete.
  • Import from Xaero's: copies this world's waypoints from Xaero's Minimap. Paste shared waypoint adds one copied from chat.
  • Every world and server keeps its own waypoints.

If you also use Xaero's Minimap, turn one of them off so the two maps don't overlap.

Coming next

  • The full-screen world map.
  • The other 1.21.x and 26.x versions.

Amethyst 0.5.0

18 October 2026

Fixed

  • The game crashed while starting when Toggle sprint and sneak (or another module that needs the game's options) was switched on in your profile. Modules now start once Minecraft has finished loading.

Cosmetics

  • New Cosmetics page in the Right Shift menu.
  • Shared cape: choose a PNG or GIF, paste a link to one, or pick a cape from the launcher's cape library, preview it, and press Upload. Other Amethyst players see it on you. Animated capes work: a GIF, or 2:1 frames stacked top to bottom, with an adjustable frame time.
  • Skin: choose a skin file (Classic or Slim arms) or one from the launcher's library, without leaving the game.
  • Minecraft capes: switch between the official capes your account owns, or wear none.

Online

  • Amethyst badge: an amethyst shard in front of the names of players who are playing with Amethyst right now, on name tags and in the tab list.
  • Screenshot upload: the screenshot message has an [Upload] button. It uploads the picture, copies a link you can paste in Discord, and shows [Open link] [Copy link]. Uploads are kept for 90 days.
  • Sign-in uses the key Minecraft already has for secure chat, so no password or token is shared with Amethyst's service. Accounts without that key (offline accounts) stay offline.
  • Settings has switches for online features and for the badge.

Coming next

  • 0.6.0: minimap and waypoints.
  • Then: the other 1.21.x and 26.x versions.

Amethyst 0.4.0

18 October 2026

New modules

  • Fullbright: see in caves and at night without Night Vision's blue tint. Brightness goes up to 1500 %, and the Darkness effect's pulsing can be switched off. Minecraft's own brightness setting is left alone.
  • Saturation: saturation drawn around the hunger drumsticks, a flashing preview of what the food in your hand restores, exhaustion under the bar (singleplayer only, servers do not send it), food values in item tooltips, and optional numbers. Colour and inverse colour settings.
  • Glint colouriser: any colour for the enchantment shimmer, with separate armour colour and brightness. Works with resource packs.
  • FOV changer: any field of view from 30 to 150 degrees, and a steady mode that stops sprinting, flying and Speed from changing it (the spyglass and bow still zoom).
  • Totem pops: counts totems popped by you and by nearby players since their last death, with an optional chat message.
  • Horse stats: speed, jump height and health of the horse, donkey, mule, llama or camel you look at or ride.

Better modules

  • Toggle sprint and sneak: double-tap mode (a single press still works as a hold), fly boost with an adjustable amount, and a status label like "Sprinting (key held)", "Sprinting (toggled)", "Flying (boost 2.0x)" or "Riding".
  • Crosshair: draw your own crosshair pixel by pixel, new X and Square shapes, centre dot, a different colour when aiming at a player or mob, outline colour, and an option to show it in third person.
  • View angles: show only while flying with an elytra; choose yaw, pitch and decimals.
  • Screenshots: after F2, chat shows the file with [Open] [Copy] [Folder] [Delete]. Copy puts the picture on the clipboard (paste into Discord), Delete moves it to the Recycle Bin.
  • Colours: every colour setting opens a colour picker with a hex field (#RRGGBB or #AARRGGBB), opacity, presets and recent colours.
  • Bracket style: text HUD modules can drop the background and show [text in brackets] with their own bracket colour.
  • HUD editor: drag the square on an element's corner to resize it.
  • The competitive-safe switch is gone; every module can be turned on.

Launcher

  • A Microsoft account is now required; offline mode was removed.
  • Jump in: your recent servers and worlds on the home page, one click to launch straight into them.
  • Screenshots page with every instance's screenshots.
  • Browse now shows modpacks and data packs, has numbered pages, and lets you pick which version to install.
  • Each installed item has a ⋯ menu: Show file, Copy link, and Freeze version (Update all skips frozen items). The remove button no longer overlaps the switch.
  • Fixed the skin changer's 403 error when switching between classic and slim.
  • The taskbar icon is Minecraft's amethyst cluster, and the logo is the same on every PC.
  • Light mode: the account and Mods buttons on the title screen are readable again.

Coming next

  • 0.5.0: cosmetics tab (skin and cape changer in game, animated capes), capes others can see, the amethyst badge next to Amethyst players, screenshot upload.
  • 0.6.0: minimap and waypoints.
